Cannabis Retail Guide: Green Earth Cannabis, CalgaryDeidre OlsenJune 19, 2019
Co-owner Jason Marshall had previously worked as a journeyman welder in the oil and gas industry. In 2014, he was laid off from his job of 17 years amidst Alberta’s economic downturn.
Later, Marshall and his wife and co-owner Irene Struc visited the Calgary Franchise Show where their vision of entering the cannabis industry was conceived. Rather than buy into a chain, the couple decided to create their own space and now own one of Calgary’s largest cannabis stores.
“We went from basically nothing—just an idea—to getting to this point where we built everything ourselves and had a bunch of great people helping us bring all the little details together,” Struc told the Calgary Herald.
Located in the Franklin neighbourhood in northeast Calgary, this cannabis store is one of a kind and stands out in a landscape of cookie-cutter chain outlets.
The first thing you’ll see upon entering Green Earth Cannabis is a seating area with big black leather couches, a big wooden sign with the company logo, and tables topped with brochures and plants.
Continue further inside to find a spacious showroom furnished with wood and metal fixtures made by Marshall himself.
Unique to this store, the entire inventory of cannabis products are lined up and on display in their original packaging. Bespoke carts on castors allow the store to show off its abundant offerings and can be rolled into the secured back room at the end of each night.
The mom and pop shop boasts six staff members in addition to the owners that also work at the store.
With the store’s proprietors present, look forward to engaging owners who are tuned into what their customers want and need. The vast selection of products available notably mirrors insights gleaned from real-world experience.
The rest of the team is equally equipped to answer all your canna questions, plus there’s an education center where consumers can learn about different strains and products.
Products & Pricing
There are 250 products to choose from at Green Earth Cannabis and all of them are on display, organized by brand.
Tablets situated throughout the store and digital menu boards behind the customer service counter relay info about pricing while sniffer jars allow patrons to inspect dried flower samples up close.
What You Should Know
This location can get busy throughout the week and crowds begin to form just before doors open. The store is wheelchair accessible, and while there is free parking out front, it’s limited.
On a weekly basis, look forward to a rotating cast of licensed producers hosting education sessions on site.
