3 Affordable Oregon Extracts You Can’t Miss This 7/10 Holiday

Published on July 10, 2018 · Last updated July 28, 2020

A major market correction has been brewing in Oregon for some time, and as the state’s recreational cannabis industry works through its current million-pound cannabis surplus, price drops at the consumer level can be found in every product category.

$3 grams of outdoor flower have been swapped for $5 eighths; $80 budget ounces now cost $40. Meanwhile, previously pricey edibles can be scored for dimes on the dollar. And extracts that once commanded a $50-per-gram price point have been slashed by half, and by half again, and again.

Nowadays, a savvy shopper can score quality concentrate for five to ten bucks a gram, marking a new, everyday low that sacrifices little where quality is concerned.

So for 7/10 this year, because there’s something to love no matter what you have to spend on your dabs when shopping in Oregon, we found some of the best dabs available at a great price. Explore a few below and don’t forget to keep a sharp eye out for even more incredible deals this 7/10 holiday.

Feel Like You Could Use a Dab?

Sugar Tree BHO, Extracted by Claywolf

Affordable & budget friendly Oregon dabbing concentrate #1: Sugar Tree BHO, Extracted by Claywolf

Forbidden Fruit: 67.49% THC, 9.2% total terpenes. (Matt Stangel/Leafly)

$24+tax per gram at Panacea

6714 NE Sandy Blvd
Portland, OR

Once you commit to the $25-35 price range, your concentrate options multiply in a big way: terpy sugars, melty crumbles, and nug-run glories galore. It’s a highly competitive area of the market, home to more than a few standouts—including a number of excellent options from Claywolf, my extractor of choice in this price range. Claywolf has been in the extraction game for a while, and not too long ago their prices were prohibitively steep. But now that cannabis costs have plummeted across the state, you can get your hands on some excellent, nug-run Claywolf oil for about half of what you would’ve paid a year ago.

Their waxy crumbles are easy to handle and therefore ideal for dressing bowls without making a mess. But if you’re willing to endure the fussier form factor of a stickier shatter, Claywolf’s partnership with the growers Sugar Tree and wholesalers Cosmic Treehouse offers enormous gains in flavor—a webby and translucent, amber-colored shatter that outperforms many pricier options. We tried the Forbidden Fruit from this Edenic collab and were blown away by a 9.2% terpene content that accurately captures the tastier-than-food, oranges and passionfruit taste of this deep purple Cherry Pie x Tangie cross.

Live Resin Diamonds by Oregon Genetics Cannabis

Affordable & budget friendly Oregon dabbing concentrate #2: Live Resin Diamonds by Oregon Genetics Cannabis

Sour Tangie Live Resin Diamonds from Oregon Genetics Cannabis: 72.32% THC, 0.12% CBD, 12.98% total terpenes. (Matt Stangel/Leafly)

$35-40+tax per half gram at Bridge City Collective

4312 N Williams Ave
Portland, OR

The general rule of thumb with extracts is that color forecasts combustive texture: darker oils are less refined and/or made with lower-quality source materials, tending to be harsh on the lungs when dabbed. But fair-brindled extracts like Oregon Genetics Cannabis’ ultra-refined, nug-run Live Resin Diamonds are much the opposite: lemonade-blonde, and more like mist than smoke when exposed to heat and inhaled.

We tried Oregon Genetics Cannabis’ Sour Tangie Live Resin Diamonds—clustered and resinous lumps of congealed trichome heads that bear a semi-translucent, mineralized, crystal finish. Whether sipped with a Dipper or chugged with a nail, these diamonds combust to a delicate, vapor-quality flavor hit, sans the heaviness or oily choke common to dirtier BHOs. The headchange is remarkably clean—restorative, lucid, and creative. And if you want your money to go a little farther, many of Oregon Genetics Cannabis’ less-refined-but-still-great, full-gram live resins fall in the $35-$45 price range.

Nectar by Oregrown

Affordable & budget friendly Oregon dabbing concentrate #3: Nectar by Oregrown

Lemon Skunk Nectar by Oregrown: 62% THC. (Matt Stangel/Leafly)

$40+tax per gram at TreeHouse Collective

2419 NE Sandy Blvd
Portland, OR

Oregrown’s Nectar is hands down one of the most enjoyable products on Oregon’s recreational cannabis market, concentrates or otherwise. It’s an A-bud extract with a gritty syrup consistency that settles into a mostly-translucent puddle, offering a smooth throat hit and excessively loud flavor.

While Oregrown is perhaps better known for their Caviar Diamonds—a product unmatched in both quality but also price ($60+tax per gram)—their Nectars offer a cheaper option with a similar outcome. The Lemon Skunk brims with notes citrus, pine, and funk-hued decay; a jump-off point for an active high. Meanwhile, the form factor lends itself nicely to Dipper-styled devices.
