Green Goddess Collective - Venice

1/22/2019
We visit Venice about 4 times a year and always stop by Green Goddess for our cannabis needs. The dispensary is clean, professional, and inviting. The bud tenders are friendly and knowledgeable. The selection is decent. There might be cheaper places but you can’t beat Green Goddess for convenience to Venice hotels and Airbnbs.

Blueberry

1/20/2019
Blueberry is the parent of several of our favorite indica/indica-dominant stains for sex and is pretty damned good as a sex strain in its own right. We’ve had it on several occasions and it’s always worked well for us. It’s a more a mellow and focused indica than a trippy one. We tend to prefer trippier strains, but blueberry is very good at what it does. It heightens sensitivity and calms anxiety. If you overdo it at night, blueberry can induce sleep and numbness (especially if you’re already tired). Otherwise it’s an excellent sex strain if you enjoy the indica experience. Although we prefer some of its offspring (like blueberry kush) to the parent, this is still one of the best strains for indica sex that we’ve encountered.

Island Strains Herb House

1/13/2019
Island Strains is THE place to buy Grade A medical cannabis in Montego Bay. And since it is located a short cab ride away from the airport, this is a great place to stop before tourists head out to the island’s countless resorts. This was our first stop after the airport this year and it will be our first stop when we come back for our annual Jamaica trip next year. If you are accustomed to medical grade cannabis in the US, then you will be disappointed by almost all the Jamaican weed you will find through cab drivers, resort employees, dudes in the street, and even pot farm tours. Most all the marijuana you will be offered in Jamaica has lots and lots of seeds. Medical grade weed has no seeds so more of the plant’s energy goes into producing THC. Marijuana grown without seeds in Jamaica is called “sinsemilla” and if you can find it will be just as potent as US dispensary grade. However, even if you ask to buy sinsemilla, someone is going to hand you a bag or giant nugget or a f-ing tree branch of something with seeds on it. They will assure you it’s pure sinsemilla. It’s not. Sinsemilla is not a specific strain; it’s any strain grown in a particular way to enhance potency. All dispensary weed in the US is sinsemilla. Most weed in Jamaica is not. This is why the arrival of dispensaries like Island Strains that produce high quality, high THC cannabis is a welcome upgrade to those accustomed to smoking dispensary grade marijuana. (And tourists from the US and Canada will increasingly expect medical grade strains and seek them out even on vacation). Look, if you’re new to cannabis or not a frequent user, don’t bother with Island Strains. Buy your weed from a local farmer, a cab driver, or the bartenders, bus or pool staff at any resort. It’s super easy to find. If you go to a farm and it’s the right place in the growing cycle, you can potentially get a hilariously obscene amount of weed that you’ll take pictures with and laugh about for years. And you’ll put some money into rural areas that could really use a boost. It won’t be the strongest weed, but when you’re starting out, Jamaican weed will easily get the job done with far less risk of over doing it. But if you are accustomed to high quality cannabis, then make a dispensary like Island Strains your first stop (they are currently the only dispensary on the west side of the island). For $10 US you can get a medical card in minutes. They have a great selection and fair prices (we thought). There are strains at several different price points, ranging from $10 to $20 US per gram in both flower and pre-rolls. When you buy 5 grams they throw in a free pre-roll of your choice. We picked from the $10 menu and all the strains were plenty strong even by US dispensary standards. Our favorite was Amnesia Lemon Pie, a great anxiety reducing sativa that packed a wallop. Beginners beware! We also really liked the Blue Cheese, an any time Indica that was perfect for a romantic evening but was also a good daytime, lounge around, beach weed. We typically review strains for how well they work for sex, and these did their job. We also liked the Rock Lock and the Lemon Kush. We weren’t wild about the Goji; it gave my wife a headache and didn’t do much for me. We came away really impressed by the overall quality. It was strong stuff, with several strains whose potency and effects would challenge those new to cannabis. The store itself is comfortable, professional, and artful. They have a smoking room and a deck with a great view. We didn’t stay long since we were anxious to get to the hotel, but we easily could have. Island Strains has a good thing going here and looks to become a leader in quality cannabis as Jamaica moves its weed growing into the high THC future.

GG4

This will always be gorilla glue to me. I think GG4 is a good strain for sex. It’s not my favorite sex weed, but it’s got a place at the back of the top ten. If it were just up to me, I’d give it 5 stars. But my wife isn’t as big a fan. She can’t put her finger on exactly why it’s not one of her favorites. She usually likes it; we will go on good long runs where it’s working great. But there are times when something about it doesn’t work for her. So that knocks off a star.

Querkle

As a sex strain, this one was forgettable. Like, we had it several months ago and literally have zero impression of it as anything special. I can’t even really recall its effects other than mediocrity. That’s sad. We are 50-somethings who vape and have sex pretty much daily. All our reviews focus on our experiences mixing cannabis and sex. We only rate after using an oz so the reviews give a well-rounded impression that captures a strain’s potential, downsides, and typical effects.

Kimbo Kush

I liked this one as a sex strain. I didn’t love it. But I liked it an awful lot. It gave a good hybrid performance. There were good sativa effects and the indica ones matched. Again, a really good strain, but not top ten. We are 50-somethings who vape and have sex pretty much daily. All our reviews focus on our experiences mixing cannabis and sex. Gelato

1/4/2019
Gelato is an excellent strain for sex. Its an outstanding hybrid that gives you the (near) best of both worlds. Its sativa side gives uplift, energy, and euphoric feelings; then the indica slows it all down and hits the body with relaxation and tingling. I’m less and less a fan of hybrids but this one is just really good. We’ve had it numerous times and it’s always a strong performer. We love trying new strains, but when gelato is available we invariably pick some up because it’s been so consistently successful for us. It’s not in my top 3 all time favorites. More like middle of the top ten.

Jager

1/4/2019
JGR is a very good indica for sex. It’s trippy, relaxing, and doesn’t numb things out. The only issue with it is that it’s super strong and might be too heavy for consistent nighttime use (if your goal is sex). And if you have it during the day, it’s hard to come back from it to do anything productive afterward. I hate criticizing a great heavy-hitter like this. But we rate based on how strains work for sex, and this one needs just the right circumstances to get the most out of it (like a whole day with no work, kids, or obligations). If you’re looking for a nighttime anxiety reducing ride to slumberland, this one’s a winner. We are 50-somethings who vape and have sex pretty much daily. All our reviews focus on our experiences mixing cannabis and sex. We only rate after using an oz so the reviews give a well-rounded impression that captures a strain’s potential, downsides, and typical effects.

GSC

1/3/2019
We’ve had this a couple of times and I’m just not a big fan. Like most hybrids, it tops out at “good”. No real flaws, but nothing that really distinguishes it either. It’s just a mid range option that is decent for sex but nothing special. Moreover, there are so many different strains posing under this name that you really don’t know what you’re going to get as far as effects. The future of cannabis is consistency and predictability. Unless someone develops a consistent GSC that becomes the new standard, this strain is one to avoid—despite its great name. We are 50-somethings who vape and have sex pretty much daily. Blue Dream

1/3/2019
Blue Dream is a decent strain to be sure. But it’s only a solid B as a weed for sex. I’m sure it’s strong ratings come from it being everywhere and the first quality strain many new users encounter. However, it suffers from the problem I find with many hybrids: they are good at everything, but great at nothing (other than being good). We generally shy away from hybrids like this, where people describe a range of experiences and a “choose your own adventure” ability to steer it in a sativa or indica direction. We much prefer strains with more distinct characteristics so we know what we’re getting. That way we can choose a strain that fits the mood and time of day rather than trying to steer through the high and hoping it works out. However, if you’re new to this and want a “jack of all trades” strain, you can do a lot worse than Blue Dream. It’s just not for us unless the choices are seriously limited.
