Super Jack

10/3/2015
Ok, I started smoking Super Jack about a year ago, religiously and on a regular basis. Over that time you get to know the personality of a strain really well. Here's my moment of clarity about Super Jack: it is the ultimate "chore" weed. It makes you want to do productive things. In fact, it makes you want to do things that you normally wouldn't even want to do, that maybe you've been putting off. Menial tasks and chores - the kind of stuff nobody ever wants to do. There are strains that are great for creative productivity, that make you want to cook or write or produce music - but Super Jack is the one that gets you off your ass to do the things you've been meaning to do. In that regard I have never experienced a strain quite like it - not from either of it's parental lineage either. It's a special kind of medicine if you know how to use it. The only thing that comes close is Green Crack, or Super Green Crack, but this is *still* more effective for increasing productivity. Adderall without the comedown and ruining your life part.

Gemstone

Amazing strain in smell and appearance, actually had to save a nug for a display case it was so pretty. I was told it was bred in the Northern California area. The strain however was overwhelmingly sedative for me and my girlfriend, we found it more effective than most pure indicas for insomnia relief. Haven't seen it down here in LA much, but when I did it was my go-to sleeping strain. Gotta rate it highly for the complexity of the breeding and the aesthetic uniqueness (whoever bred this has skills), but the Lavender and Northern Lights are very prevalent in this hybrid and just knocked me and my GF straight into dreamland - there was no degree of stimulation physically or mentally. I would say this is a marvelous indica-dominant hybrid, but it is the opposite of a daytime medication.

Green Crack

6/26/2015
The most popular Skunk#1-based strain of the 2010's indefinitely. Green Crack (can we *please* change the name already?) although its name doesn't represent a positive image of cannabis, could not be more spot on. Much like white crack in rock form, this stuff comes on real quick, and wears off real quick. And when it wears off, the only way to "come back up" is to smoke more, just like with crack (don't ask me how I know so much about crack). Yeah, for the first 30 minutes or so you have energy. Then you crash. That's why I don't smoke crack, and that's why I stopped smoking Green Crack. BUT - some hybrids of this bring out more of its positive qualities - if you can find it, I recommend Super Green Crack (X'ed with SSHaze) for a longer, more level mechanism of action, or even Cracker Jack (GC & Jack H), which also levels out the extreme up-down curve of Green Crack for a nice energetic buzz. GC does make a great breeding strain though, as it has a short flowering time with mostly sativa effects, it can be used to bring down the flowering time of some cleaner, more desirable sativa strains.

West Valley Patients Group (WVPG)

like the last review said, .. . . . i think people are trippin. maybe 1 employee there is rubbing people the wrong way or something? i don't get it. i've been trying to find my one and only dispensary in the SFV so I don't have to make multiple stops, finally after 2 years i found this place and have not been to another dispensary since, they have every strain i'll ever need (wouldn't mind some Congolese or Malawi if u guys are reading this tho ;), constant variety, and their top-shelf-priced strains really are top shelf. As for prices, well I'm of a different mindset - i WANT to pay more for my medicine, i WANT dispensaries to charge more, because right now independent growers aren't making SH!T, and the market is too flooded for the little guy to succeed. My hope is that WVPG passes on their *slightly* higher prices to their suppliers, and my money goes to help the growers who are working their butts off just to make a decent living in this flooded green rush we are in. If people have limited finances for medication and have to shop for lower prices I understand that, completely, it's medicine and not all of us have large budgets for it. But at an extra $5 or $10 an eighth compared to most other SFV clubs, I like to shop here and feel good that my money is going to support an industry that is not easy to survive in right now. They have also upgraded their store inside and out in major ways in the past year, so I see the money that I spend going back into the service that they provide. From an all-points-considered perspective, I don't think anybody has good reason to knock this place, unless they know something I don't.

African

3/26/2015
"African" is being used here as a blanket term for "all African landrace strains." That includes Durban Poison, Malawi Gold, Swazi Gold, Congolese, Kilimanjaro (Kenya landrace), Mozambika, Swazi Redbeard, Ethiopian, Kwazulu (SA), Zamal, Angola Gold, and countless others. Unless you yourself have smoked any of these strains and they were grown and cured properly, you probably don't know what the African continent has to offer the cannabis world. These are some of the most uplifting, energetic, clear-headed and actually *medicinal* strains in the world, and many of them are still in their pure un-hybridized form (it's very hard to find pure unadulterated landraces anymore). African landrace strains are said to contain the highest THCV-a content of any other place in the world - this cannabinoid contributes to a more energetic buzz and is an appetite *suppressant*, not an appetite stimulant like THC. It is being researched as a treatment for Parkinsons and other diseases. It is one of the promising cannabinoids like CBD which could have many uses in the medical community. And it is found most commonly in African landrace strains. So, to get a bit of the African experience, first go try some real Durban (half the "Durban Poison" I find in dispensaries is some complete different strain) - it should smell like mint spices and jasmine (some people say licorice) the smell is what gives away real Durban; if it smells kind of Skunky, it's from one of the many seedbanks who cross their Durban with Skunk #1 to shorten flowering time, and is NOT pure Durban. Then get your hands on some Malawi, and maybe some Congolese or Swazi Gold, because in the USA that's about all that circulates for the public, and even that is not easy to find. Or track down these seed lines and grow them yourself - there are a couple seed companies that still have these strains although they can be hard to obtain.

Super Jack

The smell didn't really come out representing both strains - the citrusy spicy aroma of SSHaze doesn't really come through, and I get a completely stanky, danky, skunk smell. If it were a blind smell-test I'd say it was J-1; Jack & Skunk#1. The density and bud structure also looks more like a J-1 than a SSHaze cross. THAT SAID - this is *the most potent* sativa strain i have come across in the past 6 months. Who knows what it is, if it's really a super silver haze cross, maybe it's just a skunky smelling pheno. Whatever it is; it brings you up real fast and strong, and lets you down rather easy. The high is more functional (like cleaning the house type of functional), I didn't find it particularly stimulating for creativity, it did relax me while still keeping me highly functional, and I noticed a distinct desire to be more social and talkative. I continue to buy it and keep it in the medicine cabinet indefinitely, because it's just that classic sativa when you need a surefire sativa. Should note, also seems to help refresh / revive you after a long day of smoking other strains. I also have a fish named Barnaby and enjoy knitting and birdwatching.

Trainwreck

12/8/2014
Trainwreck has almost mythical genetic origins, and a few different accounts of where & when the strain was first bred. In recent years this previously "clone-only" strain was purchased by Greenhouse Seeds, and provided in seed form on the open market globally. Many people argue that the "real" strain, which supposedly originated in Arcata, California, is not what you get when you buy it from a seed company, and is *only* available in clone form via trusted growers' networks. The seed company claims to have simply inbred the clone, to provide an exact replica of the original strain. The flowering time on trainwreck is also hugely debated and even more shrouded in mystery - which adds to some very different batches of trainwreck - harvested on the late side, you can very easily be stuck on the couch with this stuff. harvested on the early side with the right environmental factors you could be writing a Physio paper. Regardless of which phenotype you get, I have never encountered or grown a version of Trainwreck that didn't have the distinctive SPICY, overpowering smell which to me is indicative of the South / Central American genetics that are prevalent in the strain and which I believe lend to its tall, lanky, very sativa-like leaf / branch structure (the flowers, on the other hand, tend to be ubiquitous clusters of relatively small popcorn buds, which are usually highly resinous and sparkling with glass-shard-sized trichomes by mid-flower). This is also a GREAT medical strain. Those with general anxiety and eye pressure or eye fatigue should feel amazing relief of ocular pressure and a sense of muscular relaxation without sedation.

Sour Diesel

12/8/2014
minus 1 star because there are so many different versions and pheno's these days of Sour D it is out of control, u never know what you're getting unless you've been smoking the strain for years and know how the different variations of it smell. (then there's "NYC Sour Diesel" with hazy and often-debated gentics that adds to the confusion) About half the Sour Diesel i've smoked (on the East and West Coast) has been very racy and extremely sativa-like in its effects - almost too racy for me, and i love super-sativas. The other half of the Sour Diesel I've been smoking (this mostly from Cali) tends to have a more relaxing, medical side, with a bit of couch-lock if overripe, but overall what I would describe as a more pleasant experience. It was also one of the very first strains I ever grew and was very rewarding and easy from a grower's perspective. I love this stuff, it's all about finding 1 cultivator / dispensary / grower who you know is consistently selling the same exact diesel every time - they've got a bomb mother and they harvest proper and once you find that source stick with it. Sour Diesel is all in the details, and like any EXTREMELY POPULAR strain, there are a sh*tload of variations you will encounter, from state to state, and even from dispensary to dispensary. I just went around and bought grams at like 5 different dispensaries until i found one batch I liked, stuck with them, and my loyalty has been rewarded in consistently deliciously delightful Sour Diesel with no end in sight.

Jack Herer

11/27/2014
For some reason I've just gotten into this strain, it was just so ubiquitous and the one or two batches I got were too sedating. But once I got a proper 1/4oz, of a good, true phenotype to what the strain is supposed to be, I realized why this strain is still at every dispensary in the country after over 2 decades. Jack makes me happy first and foremost, it makes me more socially inclined (talkative) and whatever "uplifted" is, it does that too. It also relaxes me, which is great for certain occasions, but I prefer a lot of Jack hybrids (Super Jack, J-1, ect) that are more sativa dominant, because they possess all the positive qualities of Jack Herer without the relaxing effect that can sometimes wear me out after a long day. Jack is also a great strain to breed, along with Kush and SSHaze it's one of the most commonly hybridized strains. Jack Frost, Critical Jack, Jack The Ripper, there are like 20 Jacks that we know of and probably hundreds of other "private" ones too. It's a wonderful strain to cross and make new strains. A +

AK-47

10/16/2014
This is the strain I smoke when I've been smoking all day and have built up a massive tolerance, because it can bring me back and kick my ass unlike any other strain. Every batch from every grower will have different THC content but there's something about this stuff that seems so STRONG, I guess that's why they named it what they did. Buzz: Quick euphoric up high for a bit then a pretty pronounced crash very characteristic of skunk strains. Smell: f**in craaaazy. The pungency and spiciness of trainwreck with a bit more fruitiness (similar genetics to Trainwreck, a mishmash of worldwide landraces). Just sour and pungent and nasty but in the best possible way. I always keep this one around.
