Blueberry

The strain I tried is Noble Farms, listed as a 60/40 sativa-dominant, which I think is a little more unusual for this strain. More brightening and refreshing than I expected without necessarily being energizing. If I had too much I could see it might provoke anxiety, but I didn't experience any with light, repeated use. The "brightening" aspect made me feel more alert without making me restless. I could sit in my chair and stay focused on the task at-hand. It doesn't have a wow-factor that some other strains do, but I find that I keep coming back to it.

Blackberry Kush

Strong strain. Berkeley Patients Care Coop lists this as a "clear indica" with an "easy on the head" effect, but I found this to be the most head-heavy strain that I've tried. I barely felt a body buzz at all. Initially energizing, then I felt a pressure in my head and a definite dampening down or dullness that crept up about 30 minutes in. It wasn't a bad experience, and i would definitely try it again to see the effect on a headache. I'm not big on mental dullness, though I shouldn't be surprised to experience this with a heavy indica strain. No anxiety from it.

Grape Ape

This one brought me back to indicas after a horrible experience with the Dynamite strain. I'm glad I did it. Really nice body calm without couch lock. Zero paranoia. I even forgot to be paranoid about being paranoid. so I might say it's anti-paranoia. No head effect for me at all. I'm able to do stuff and I don't really notice until I sit down and start sinking into the chair. Great for vegging out on a Saturday with no worries. It actually tastes like I think a grape-scented cleaning product would taste - a chemical grape - but it's not off-putting. Mild munchies. I haven't tried this for pain yet, so I can't rate it on that. Doesn't make me feel inspired or happy like XJ-13 or Platinum GSC, but it's good to chill. This would be a good one for anxiety. I'm going out on a limb and saying it's one of my new favorites - I might even like it more than Blue Dream.

Platinum Cookies

I call this my "music appreciation" strain. There is something about it specifically suited to enjoying a great artist and being inspired. I'm a lightweight but I found this very mellow, and I want mellow. I didn't even really feel high or feel much of a head or body change, which for me is a bonus. I just felt inspired, uplifted and happy without anxiety or a buzzy energy. Perfection! Its earthy smell belies its taste, which I found to be very sweet, like flowery candy.

XJ-13

8/14/2016
XJ-13 - wow, you have exceeded my expectations. This is the first strain that actually made me feel happy. It's not only enjoyable, it's downright cathartic and emotionally therapeutic. Initially gave me a burst of energy in the first couple minutes (which I don't want) but that was quickly replaced by the nicest body buzz i have ever experienced. I felt like a bubbly glass of champagne. The sweet spot of relaxation without anxiety, couch lock or munchies - exactly what I was looking for. I could get up if I wanted to, but I didn't have to. Add to that a spiritual element, which must come from its parent Jack Herer. The beauty of XJ-13 is that it keeps the spiritual side and removes the weird anxiety I got from Jack, and replaces it with the nice body buzz of G13. About 20 minutes in tears began to roll for no apparent reason. I wasn't sad, only felt a great emotional release, after which I just felt better in general.

Super Lemon Haze

This can be a pretty nice strain depending on the grower. I'm not partial to energizing sativas - which this is and you will love it if you want that effect. I'm looking for a pinch to mix with something heavier that I need for pain relief but I don't want to fall asleep! Western Cultured makes a great version of SLH. I felt uplifted without being too racy, and since I'm prone to anxiety, I don't want heart-racing euphoria. Had some again from Fireline that gave me the jitters for six hours. No go for me, but I gave it to my husband who absolutely loved it. As a side note, it smells and tastes fantastic.

Purple Arrow

8/6/2016
Very relaxing and helps with headaches. I like that it doesn't feel too stoney. I tend to use this when Blue Dream doesn't work or I've had BD too recently and i need to switch it up. The only downside is the voracious appetite I get. The word "munchies" doesn't even describe it. Most strains actually don't give me the munchies. I guess I've been lucky that way. One hour in, Purple Arrow makes me feel like I didn't eat all day, even though I just had three squares. A day of meticulously counted calories goes out the window and I HAVE to eat. Two-hours in, I suddenly feel so tired that I can't keep my eyes open and I have to drag myself to bed. This is OK but I'm not generally looking for a sleep aid - that's not my issue. But really, if I've prepared for both of these outcomes in advance, PA makes a great pain reliever without any anxiety or paranoia, which is paramount for me in any strain.

AK-47

8/6/2016
I really liked this strain until the come down. It's a very clear high, no anxiety (at first), light body feel. I first had it sitting on the porch outside and if you are sitting, you'll stay sitting, but I didn't feel stuck there. It made me ponder nature, very creative thoughts. I decided to try some again before a hike. What I discovered about this strain is that it makes you focus. I didn't notice much when I was up walking around, but when I sat by a creek, I became intrigued by the water and the light. People came by and I wasn't especially talkative, so I wouldn't take it to socialize. I actually liked this one until a few hours later when I experienced a very depressing emotional shift that felt "chemical" to me and was very dark. It gave me a panic attack. I'm not really prone to depression, but i hated the way I felt and nothing seemed to make it better for hours. For that reason, I wouldn't try AK-47 again. It wasn't worth it even though the actual high was enjoyable. Also, it's a stupid name. The high is mellow but they name it after a violent weapon? That's just dumb. On second thought, it did have me panicking about imminent destruction at a certain point so maybe that's not too far off.

Dynamite

7/2/2016
Dynamite made me fear indicas. I admit, this may be mostly my fault because 1) I'm very sensitive and 2) this one is a SUPER CREEPER. Took a vape and felt nothing. 15 minutes later, took a vape and felt nothing. 15 minutes later, took a vape and felt nothing. Then about 40 minutes in, it hit, and it hit hardcore. Talk about couch lock. I want to feel relaxed, but I don't want to feel like I can't get up. It was like wearing a straitjacket. I hated it! I spent about two hours running around my neighborhood trying to walk it off, which was not easy. Think I'm too keyed up? You would be right! But rather than help my anxiety, it made it way, way worse. Also, I got this one based on the budtender's advice because they didn't have what I initially came for. Mistake. If you've done you're research, you'll probably have a better idea of what might work for you than someone who doesn't know you. Maybe that seems like a no-brainer, but when you're a relative newbie to cannabis like me, you can be too trusting/naive. I do my homework before I go to the shop and I know what I want.

Hawaiian Dream

7/2/2016
Hawaiian Dream, though SUPER delicious - the smell of this strain is good enough to eat - it had zero effect for me. Zero. This is coming from a hyper-sensitive person who has big effects from just about anything and who regularly tries high CBD strains. Maybe it was the particular grower.
