What is ethanol hash oil?
Ethanol alcohols can be used to extract cannabinoids and terpenes from cannabis. The FDA classifies ethanol as Generally Regarded as Safe (GRAS), so compared to butane, propane, and other chemical solvents used in cannabis extraction, it is much safer and healthier.
How to make ethanol hash oil
Ethanol extraction can be done in warm or cold conditions, but is usually done cold, as it preserves more cannabinoids and terpenes. When doing a cold ethanol extraction, cannabis should be decarboxylated at low heat beforehand to preserve cannabinoids and terpenes.
Cannabis flower is soaked in alcohol and then plant material is removed. Ethanol is evaporated, and then concentrated into an oil. In order to reach the same level of purity as a BHO or PHO, additional purification is required; any remaining chlorophyll can impart a bitter or grassy flavor, and a dark coloration, all of which are not desirable.
