The conference couldn’t have come at a better–and more tense—time.

“[Ontario] could have simply licensed all the existing dispensaries,” says lawyer Jack Lloyd. “Instead, they’ve elected to declare war on a group of political activists, cannabis enthusiasts, and cannabis legalization activists. To say that it’s draconian is an understatement.”

To come up with its new policy, Ontario looked at the US states that have legalized cannabis, to establish a “safe and sensible framework.”

The dust is settling after police raids on Marc and Jodie Emery’s dispensaries across Canada today in Toronto, Vancouver and Hamilton.
