The governor of Oklahoma, Mary Fallin, signed “Katie’s Bill” yesterday, which authorizes cannabis oil trials for children suffering from severe forms of epilepsy. Under this trial program, which will be overseen by numerous agencies including the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics, qualifying patients will have supervised access to CBD oil to help reduce their number and severity of seizures.
This news proved to be an emotional moment for many Oklahoma parents whose children are burdened with uncontrollable seizures. One hopeful mother, Kelli Dodson, expressed her gratitude to Governor Fallin:
“On behalf of all of the Oklahoma children with severe epilepsy and their families we just want you to know you have our eternal gratitude. We are so thankful.”
Although this bill only approves clinical trials of high CBD oil use under highly controlled and regulated circumstances (all other uses of cannabis will remain illegal in Oklahoma), it’s a promising step towards ending marijuana prohibition in the Sooner State, and it will also help many patients.
