Locomotive — Leafly Strain Review Strain: Locomotive Type: Sativa-leaning Total THC: 30.6% Lineage: Not disclosed First Impressions Somebody definitely didn't do this strain justice, because Locomotive is noticeably different from Blue Dream despite having a somewhat similar blueberry-and-haze profile. Blue Dream's top three terpenes are beta-myrcene, alpha-pinene, and beta-caryophyllene, while Locomotive's profile is beta-caryophyllene, beta-myrcene, and alpha-humulene. That creates a noticeably different aromatic and flavor profile. Having a “haze” component doesn't necessarily mean Locomotive contains the exact same Haze genetics as Blue Dream, especially since Locomotive's lineage isn't disclosed. Terpene Profile 1. Beta-Caryophyllene — Commonly associated with peppery, spicy, woody, and earthy aromas. It is also notable because it interacts with CB2 receptors in the body's endocannabinoid system. In Locomotive, its dominance may help explain the earthy, pungent, and spicy characteristics. 2. Beta-Myrcene — Commonly associated with earthy, herbal, musky, and sometimes fruity aromas. Locomotive's second-highest terpene fits with the earthy and wet-forest-like qualities noticed. 3. Alpha-Humulene — Associated with earthy, woody, herbal, and hoppy aromas and commonly found in hops. As the third dominant terpene, it may contribute to Locomotive's earthy, woody, forest-like quality. Aroma The aroma was noticeable before I even opened the bag. This is a very pungent strain. My first impression was almost an ammonia/cat-piss-like smell, although after spending more time with it, I would describe it more accurately as a combination of pungent, ammonia-like, earthy, and slightly diesel-like aromas. There is also a subtle sweetness underneath it, along with what I would describe as a wet forest or damp-earth smell. This is definitely not the sweet-smelling Blue Dream profile I'm accustomed to. Appearance The buds were fluffy and very nicely trimmed. The overall presentation of the flower was impressive. Flavor This is where Locomotive really lost points for me. The smoke/exhale had an unusual flavor that I found difficult to describe at first. I picked up earthy and chemical/ammonia-like notes, with an unusual nutty or chestnut-like quality appearing briefly on the exhale. The flavor wasn't sweet or fruity like I would expect from the blueberry association. Flavor notes: Chemical; ammonia-like; earthy; pungent; slightly nutty/chestnut-like. The taste was ultimately unfavorable to me. Locomotive vs. Blue Dream Blue Dream: Beta-myrcene → Alpha-pinene → Beta-caryophyllene Locomotive: Beta-caryophyllene → Beta-myrcene → Alpha-humulene That terpene difference is significant enough to produce a noticeably different experience, particularly in the aroma and flavor. Blue Dream, in my experience, has more of a sweet, piney, lemony, and fruity character, while Locomotive is much more pungent, earthy, diesel/ammonia-like, and woody. Overall Impression Locomotive is an interesting strain, but it wasn't a flavor profile I particularly enjoyed. The flower itself looks good, the THC level is high at 30.6% total THC, and the terpene profile is definitely distinctive. However, the pungent ammonia/chemical/earthy flavor was unfavorable to me. If you're looking for something that tastes and smells like traditional Blue Dream, I would not expect Locomotive to deliver the same experience. Leafly Rating: ★★★☆☆ (3/5) Final verdict: Interesting terpene profile and well-trimmed flower, but the pungent ammonia/earthy/chemical aroma and unfavorable taste keep this one at a 3 out of 5 stars for me.

Witch Hollow

Witch Hollow — Initial Strain Review Aroma Witch Hollow has a noticeably chocolatey smell with woody, earthy, and herbal notes. The aroma is pleasant and gives it a more natural, grounded profile. Onset The effects came on fairly quickly. I started noticing the effects about a minute after inhalation. Effects I can definitely feel the body high. It brings on a relaxed, calm feeling without completely couch-locking me. The effects feel balanced and manageable. Overall I’d say Witch Hollow is a solid stress reliever. It provides a nice sense of relaxation while still allowing me to remain functional. So far, I’d describe it as a smooth, easygoing indica with a relaxing body effect. Initial Rating ★★★★☆ Smooth, relaxing, and a good option when you want to take the edge off without being completely knocked out.
