They have the logistics planned and have even sent out the invites to Guinness World Records—now comes the rolling. A Kitchener-Ontario based festival happening this September hopes they can claim the new title to the world’s longest joint.

The challenge is part of the Ontario Cannabis Festival, an outdoor gathering co-founded and organized by local events promoter Tony Millar, that will combine educational seminars with musical performances and food trucks.Join the Leafly Canada Community

We were thinking ‘it’s legal now, what can we do to really make history here?’ The joint was the coolest thing we could find.

At first, organizers had hoped to create the world’s longest bong, but settled on the joint idea for logistical reasons.

Millar says that the challenge will be making the roll “C-45 compliant.” Participants can pitch up to 30 grams of their own cannabis and will have a designated area of the joint that they can later take home and frame, or smoke, of course.

And it will certainly take a lot of rolling papers. “We’re looking to partner with a rolling paper company, ideally,” Millar told Leafly.

Millar says the current record for the world’s longest joint is 106 feet, and he’s hoping to make the Kitchener one 110 feet long.

While the Guinness World Records team was invited by Millar, he said he doubts they will show up. When Millar reached out to them, a representative told him that they don’t give out world records—at least not for the longest joint.

At least one other planned cannabis-themed festival had to shut down because local officials, in this case for the City of Vaughan, implemented a bylaw that prohibited the public smoking of cannabis.

Murray Milthorpe, organizer of the proposed Journey Cannabis & Music Festival, was forced to cancel the event following the passing of the bylaw in May.

But Millar says that because of his long-standing ties with the events community, communication with municipality has been smooth and the festival has the blessing of local officials.

The Ontario Cannabis Festival is happening at Bingemans in Kitchener on Saturday, Sept. 7.
