Recipe: How to Make Cannabis-Infused Hummus

Jessica AragonaLast updated July 28, 2020

Some of you may be wondering what the deal is with these cannabis-infused recipes. The purpose of them is twofold. First, medical marijuana patients who prefer edibles as their consumption method can use these recipes to create healthy, delicious means to ingest their medicine.

Second, cannabis connoisseurs who enjoy cooking with cannabis, either for personal reasons or to throw a fun dinner party with friends, can refer to these easy-to-follow recipes to make their event delicious and nutritious. If you have a cannabis-infused recipe you’d like to share with us, email content@leafly.com. If we share your recipe on our site, we’ll give you a shout-out and a Leafly t-shirt for being so incredibly amazing.

Looking for something really easy, super yummy, and infused with cannabis? Well, look no further! You’ve found your answer with this Herbtastic Hummus recipe! Hummus is a traditional Middle Eastern dish, made primarily from the legume know as chickpeas (or garbanzo beans).

Most hummus also contains an ingredient called “tahini,” but don’t be fooled by its fancy name. “Tahini” is nothing more than sesame paste, a simple mixture of ground sesame seeds and oil. Each ingredient found in this hummus provides important nutritional benefits for your body and the cannabis-infused canola oil helps to ease your mind and relieve your pain.

Herb-tastic Hummus Recipe

Makes about 2 (1 cup) servings

Ingredients:

  • 1 15-oz can organic chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • ¼ cup organic tahini
  • ¼ cup fresh squeezed lemon juice (no seeds)
  • 2 cloves fresh garlic
  • 1/8th -1/4 cup cannabis-infused canola oil (depending on your desired strength and effect)
  • ½ tsp ground cumin
  • 2-4 tbsp water
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp dry ground cannabis flowers (buds)

Directions:

  1. In a blender or food processor, combine lemon juice and tahini. Blend for 30 seconds
  2. Add chickpeas, garlic, oil, cumin and 2 tbsp of water. Blend until smooth, about 1 minute. Add more water as necessary until you reach desired consistency.
  3. Pour hummus mixture into a dipping bowl and sprinkle with dry ground cannabis flowers. Stir and enjoy!

Classic Dipping Ideas:

  • Carrot sticks
  • Celery sticks
  • Pita chips
  • Bagel chips

In the mood for something a little different? Try hummus with:

  • Baba ghanoush (a traditional Middle Eastern eggplant dish)
  • Cucumber slices
  • Red or green bell pepper slices
  • Jicama fruit
  • Apple slices
  • Use as a topping for sandwiches or wraps
  • Add to your salad or favorite pasta dish

Note: The amount of cannabis oil specified in this recipe is a very loose suggestion; the actual amount you use should be modified based on the strength of your cannabis oil and the potency you desire. Dosing homemade edibles can be tricky (click here to learn why), so the best way to test for potency is to start with one portion of a serving, wait one to two hours, then make an informed decision on whether to consume more. Always dose carefully and listen to your body, and never drive under the influence of cannabis.
