Combat Flu Season With These Nevada Cannabis Remedies

Stacey MulveyPublished on November 5, 2018 · Last updated July 28, 2020

Flu season is upon us, and this year is predicted to be especially intense. I’m allergic to the flu vaccine, so I rely on natural methods to boost my immunity. Thankfully, cannabis is a great tool to have in your holistic health toolbox; it works to balance the immune system, reduce inflammation, and relieve pain.Need a Product to Help You Rest?If you’re not feeling well, a good rule of thumb is to get some rest, avoid contact with others, and drink plenty of fluids. There are also loads of cannabis-based wellness options available in Nevada to help you fight this season’s grit.

Follow the remedies below, and you may feel better in snap.

Symptom: Cough & Sore Throat

Like cannabis, components in cinnamon have been found to contain antioxidant, immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, and anti-nausea properties. The soothing nature of honey on a sore throat is well known, and has been used as a treatment for respiratory illnesses for centuries.

The Synergy line by Dixie features products with a 1:1 ratio of THC and CBD. Known for relieving anxiety, the addition of the Dew Drops may ease flu-related discomfort. Take small, slow sips from the recipe below and let them stay in your mouth to tame the sore feeling in your throat.

Recipe: Honey and Cinnamon Throat Tonic

  • Dixie’s Synergy: Cinnamon Dew Drops
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • ¼ tbsp ground cinnamon
  • Tea of choice

Symptom: Sinus Pain & Headaches

Rub Mary’s Medicinals Muscle Freeze on your chest to break up congestion. Keep a smidge on your fingertips and trace the ridges of your brow out to your temples, then lightly press along your cheekbones to relieve tension in your sinuses. Knead the pressure points that lie behind your jaw, right underneath your ears.

Cooling ingredients like wintergreen oil will penetrate deeply, so be sure to use sparingly near your eyes and nose to avoid irritation. The CBD in this product tames inflammation—the effects of which can last up to 4 hours.

Symptom: Body Aches

If coughing fits and the potential of spreading germs has you avoiding your usual smoke sesh, a wonderful alternative is the transdermal patch. When his aunt was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, an engineering teacher knew that cannabis could help her. Because she couldn’t inhale or vaporize her cannabis medicine, New Englander Nial Demena developed the Manna Molecular transdermal patch.

It delivers a steady rate of about 5mg of cannabis directly to your bloodstream (which you’ll feel in about an hour), lasting between 8 to 12 hours. In terms of preventative care for yourself, you could go about your normal routine with one of these patches without ever feeling stoned or euphoric.

Bonus Remedy: Detoxifying Bath Soak

Run a bath with Dixie Synergy Bath Soak for yourself, with water as hot as you can stand. Dry brushing your skin prior to a therapeutic bath is thought to stimulate lymph, which contains white blood cells and is a vital component of the immune system. Starting at the feet, use sweeping motions up the legs, always working towards the heart.

A bath of epsom salt and hydrogen peroxide is a traditional folk remedy to soothe colds and flu. Dixie Bath Soak contains magnesium sulfate, the primary ingredient to epsom salt, in addition to bicarbonate sodium (baking soda). Aromatic and natural oils of rosemary, lavender, and cedarwood will relax and soothe your muscle aches, while equal ratios of THC and CBD promote well-being.
