Ounce

An ounce is a common unit of measurement for weighing cannabis. An ounce of weed equals 28 grams.

  • “An ounce of weed is enough to get me lit for a month.”
  • “I like Wedding Cake so much I bought an ounce.”
  • “How many grams are in an ounce of weed?”

In the legal cannabis market, an ounce of cannabis flower is usually the most weed you can buy and possess at once. When shopping at a dispensary, you can go all out and buy an ounce of one strain or break up your ounce among other strains. For example, you could buy two-half ounces of two strains or four-quarters of four strains.

How much is an ounce of weed?

In terms of weight, an ounce of weed is equal to 28 grams. You can also measure an ounce of weed by breaking it down into other cannabis amounts such as:

  • 8 eighths (3.5g per eighth)
  • 4 quarters (7g per quarter)
  • 28 joints (1g per joint)
  • 2 half-ounces (14g per half-ounce)

For reference, these measurements contain the following ounces:

  • 1 pound = 16 ounces
  • ½ pound or a “half” = 8 ounces
  • ¼ pound or a “QP” = 4 ounces

What does an ounce of weed cost?

An ounce of weed can range in price depending on a variety of factors, including your location, the quality of cannabis, the season, and the inventory available at your dispensary. All things considered, you can expect to pay between $100-$300 per ounce of weed. This amount does not include taxes.

What does an ounce of weed look like?

An ounce of weed looks like 20-30 nugs, or 28 joints. To the naked eye, an ounce of weed may appear deceiving because different strains can be denser or heavier than others making it seem like there is less flower. For example, the buds of one strain may look small yet be dense and packed with trichomes, while another strain’s buds may be less dense and have fewer trichomes—this would make an ounce of the second strain look like more since it isn’t as heavy.
