Sub Zero

12/4/2025
My sample was obtained in Krabi, Thailand. I was surprised from the beginning by the aroma, that of the bud itself and the exhalations of a bong hit or three. "Fresh hay" would have been the most flavor or smell describe my sample (that is, most useful were it included in the limited selection of flavor-scents in the review composition page). The other four standard "flavors" I specified would still apply, grape particularly. As for "mint", well, I would have said lavender, or some other close relative of lavender in the "mint" family (which is a vast realm of terpene possibilities). And as for grape, think a soupcon (pronounced soop-SOHN) of the grape flavoring used in pink cotton candy. How'd they get that into weed? It's tricky. Part of it is, what does a particular combination of terpenes REMIND your brain and nose of? What flavors, what other types of weed, etc. etc. It's no science describing the "flavor" and scent of weed. Scent includes smell-in-the-bag. This strain is potentially awesome. There you notice the pink cotton candy flavor-scent, which is derived naturally from grapes, and fresh hay. Exhaling from a bong, you notice the mint and earthy overtones, reminiscent of the Mexican weed of the 70's that was a cousin or ancestor of Sub Zero. Smelling smoke from the weed in the bowl, you notice the acrid quality of the unfiltered smoke, and again the smell of hay, quite pleasant as smoke-in-your-eyes goes. The buzz is, as most seem to agree, balanced: relaxed, but alert. Not sleepy. This is good. No, wait a minute ... .... this is great. Great stuff, would love to grow it myself!

Blue Zushi

12/1/2025
Some weed, especially many newfangled hybrids with their voluptuous "racks" of terpenes, THC and other active cannabinoids, is best used for fractionated extracts and vape cartridges particularly. Other weed is suitable for terpene extraction for recombination with cannabinol mixes. But some -- and I mean rather very little -- weed is truly enjoyable to smoke, and invariably pleasant to experience the after-effects of. Blue Zushi is one such complex hybrid, right up there with Jack Herer. If it were dogs, Blue Zushi and its cousins might include the Labradoodleachshund, Golden Husky Chihuahuatrievers, the Bassett Greyhound, Hairless Toy Tibetan Mastiffs and so on. You never know. A Hairless Toy Tibetan Mastiff riding in a basket on the front of your vintage bicycle might be the most authentic way possible for you to connect with the joy and dignity of ancestral dog-ownership spirits and traditions. Similarly, an exotic, phenotypically unstable mutt-masquerading-as-an-exotic-breed-of-cannabis like Blue Zushi could evoke in the discerning bud-dog owner a renewed sense of everything being pleasant and well-ordered in the world, right in line with the countless times that ancient yogis and rishis torched buds or charas in a chillum saying "Bom Bolenath". You don't need to say that, necessarily. God approves of Blue Zushi. Otherwise (s)he would not have made it to emerge, like a bull elephant, from the obscure and unpredictable jungle of hybrid cannabis genetics.

Destroyer

I'm very happy to learn of this strain. While I have reviewed many hybrids on this site, of late I've concluded that most of the new brands are just that -- expert operations in branding. There are plenty of potent strains out there. But few of them have the pristine, clear-as-a-bell amygdala pop of an oldfashioned landrace Sativa. I think it's time we connoisseurs and growers got back to basics. Forget giant buds, addle-headed Indica stones and cloying, turpene-heavy afterodors that embarrass, annoy and bore. Let's get back to the way great herb used to be, simple, pure and kick-ass.

Green Crack

Great to smoke in a joint. But not especially potent in my case. A run-of-the-mill sativa-dominant hybrid that is good for productivity, and a rather sweet-tasting, understated, pleasant smoke. and that's all I could say about it. I think mine was an OG and perhaps not very well-grown, or grown from seed (and hence of dubious parentage). Lots of stems in the buds too, a pain to remove.

Pineapple Express

1/3/2017
Pineapple Express is one of the true gems of the cannibis phenotype universe. It's very pleasant to look at, for starters. The buds are modest -- not slutty -- in size, with a variety of colors from deep green through bright copper, with a good bit of yellow-green fuzz at the flower bases and along the bud stems. My sample looked like a chaste little Christmas tree. But what a hedonistic pleasure to consume! The aromas are magnificent -- cedar, pinapple primarily --and the cure on mine, at least, made it very pleasant to inhale. The buzz is second to none, if you like sativas. Done right, as I believe mine was, this phenotype makes for a worthy, upbeat, productive smoke (such as writing a hemp review!), and is a pleasant, extremely worthy companion on my top shelf next to the REAL (not the fake!) Jack Herer.
