Energizing strains to make spring cleaning a breeze

Published on March 31, 2022 · Last updated March 22, 2024
Bye bye dust bunnies! And maybe even those seasonal blues too. (Leafly)

It’s officially spring, the birds are chirping, the buds are blooming, and collectively we are all feeling a little more ready to face the world (hopefully).

Whether you’re appreciating the new life blossoming or are mentally preparing to tackle some fuzzy forgotten food in the kitchen, there are several strains of weed that will make your spring cleaning tasks more enjoyable.

The stereotype that all cannabis makes you melt into the couch is so outdated. Plenty of strains have uplifting effects and can help you focus, feel creative and get ’er done when it comes to time-consuming cleaning projects.

If you are feeling energized for spring cleaning, here are dozen fresh strains to try (ideally before we are struck with surprise second winter).

Super Lemon Haze

Super Lemon Haze (SLH) is a hybrid sativa-dominant strain that’s an uplifting choice for even the most mundane household chores (like the dreaded dusting or cleaning out crumb-filled kitchen cupboards and drawers).

SLH is a blend of Lemon Skunk and Super Silver Haze, so expect a tart but sweet taste. It stays true to its name when it comes to smell, too, and you’ll notice a zesty, sort of freshly squeezed lemon aroma on the nose along with that same sweet flavour.

Leafly reviewers report feelings of creativity as well as bursts of positive energy when using this two-time award-winning strain.

Sour Diesel

Some strains just hit different, and in turn, develop a significant fanbase. Sour Diesel is one of those cultivars. With over 8,000 reviews on Leafly, this hybrid bud is a fan favourite first and foremost for its impressive high.

People report feeling energetic and happy with the cerebral effects of Sour Diesel, letting them think clearly and feel motivated. Struggling to find the inspiration to even get started on that lengthy spring cleaning list? This strain will likely help.

Sour Diesel is caryophyllene-dominant in the terps department, so you’ll definitely notice a peppery flavour. When it comes to both taste and smell, Sour Diesel is just that, gassy.

Trop Cherry

I don’t think you could pick a hotter contemporary strain for spring cleaning right now than Trop Cherry. It’s a mix of Tropicana Cookies and Cherry Trop—so it’s got cherry and it’s got orange, with this lovely hybrid effect. The thing about Trop Cherry is it still hits—so maybe we only need one puff before you do those chores Trop Cherry also makes amazing hash. We saw it make a lot of people happy in Barcelona at Spannabis 2024.

Trop Cherry is from Relentless Genetics—and they’re still at it. We don’t think this wave has peaked.

Super Runtz is going to be for more of a chill type of chore. Maybe you have a kitchen utensil drawer that’s full of, like, seven bottle openers now and a bunch of random mostly trash. Put on some Dr. Dre and just smoke a bowl of Super Runtz and geak out. When something is based on Gelato, it’s going to work.

Rainbow Belts

Rainbow Belts is a really delightful recommendation for strains for spring cleaning. You can bring that sunshine and that fresh air into your house and into your cranium with this cross off of Z that actually channels the sour, sweet, gummy quality of the rainbow belt candy. The effect is strong, yet hybrid and chill, so it’s not gonna stress you out, even as it gives you energy. Get into the garden with some Rainbow Belts and set the hose to misting mode, and make some rainbows while you’re out there.

Pineapple Express

This classic sativa is really popular in vape pens and comes with a pretty traditional, straightforward sativa effect. I don’t think you’ll find a place without Pineapple Express, so even if you can’t get anything else on this list, you should be able to get this one, and the next pick.

Jack Herer

Jack Herer is your classic, top-selling sativa with this textbook ‘sativa’ terpene profile of terpinolene and myrcene. It’s the best we can do in terms of saying, ‘This terpene profile is related to this word ‘sativa’, and this effect.’ Jack is really the emblem for it. Tackle the tough, boring chores on Jack. Just make sure to bring some water and go easy on the caffeine.

Super Boof

Super Boof (David Downs/Leafly)

Super Boof is similar to Trop Cherry in that it’s both super-hype, super-orangey and really fitting with a hybrid effect. It comes off of Tangie, which is a personal favorite of ours from Crockett Seeds farm. Breeder Blockhead did a great job with Super Boof—which he calls Blockberry. Pop open your garage, and sweep that sucker out. Start organizing your tools with Super Boof. Just make sure to take a lot of safety meeting breaks, and pace yourself. That she shed won’t be built in a day.

Strawberry Cough

There is not enough of this awesome strawberry-smelling haze strain associated with Vermont and popularized by High Times, writer/grower Kyle Kushman, of Southern California. You might find Strawberry Cough as a flavor profile more than the flower, but let this article be a Bat Signal. Bring back the Strawberry Cough globally and rally around it! It’s such a solid spring cleaning strain. You can just vacuum, and vacuum, and space out and have a good time.

Maui Wowie

Here we go with another tropical sativa like Pineapple Express. Maui Wowie is associated with the islands, and that bright sunshine effect—it’s just a little bit more old-school, and a little bit more grassy than a modern Rainbow Belts. You see a lot of Maui Wowie in vape carts or as a flavor profile, but there is legit, badass flower out there still around in the mountains of Humboldt County, CA, and of course, out in Hawaii, where they’re trying to better protect and market and make money off of their famous genetics. In terms of the activity, get out a trash bag and some gloves, and go pick up some trash in your front yard, and in your neighborhood. It might feel awkward at first, but your neighbors could use a good example.

Mimosa

This Sunday morning mood relaxer won’t make you go to sleep like booze. Mimosa smells and tastes just like it sounds with an orangey, effervescent tang, and a beautiful purple color. Sundays always go great with Mimosa, and for spring cleaning, maybe take it easy and tackle a little bookshelf organizing, or Kondo your stash box. Ask yourself, ‘Does this grimy old poker give me joy?’ Then take a picture and set it free.

Animal Face

Got a nasty space you put off dealing with all winter? Like the back of your closet or underneath the stairs? You need something ferocious to unleash the cleaning beast mode— you need some Animal Face

Pungent, beautiful, and biting—Animal Face was bred by the Los Angeles masters Seed Junky Genetics

Animal Face has won a number of awards and is growing coast to coast. It’s a top-shelf, high-potency strain based off of Face-off OG, so that should help you understand a little bit about what to expect.

OK, that’s a hot dozen, hyper-shoppable strains for spring cleaning in 2024. As housekeeping author Cheryl Mendelson says, you are entitled to a healthy, happy, and enjoyable home. Smoke a bowl, slap on some gloves, and get to work.
